Meet The Team: Scott Triana

Publié par le

From selling Bailey Nelson’s first sunglasses at the Bondi Markets, to managing our Paddington store in its early days, to his current position as Head of Community Engagement; Scott Triana has been an indispensable part of BN since day one. But while his roles may have changed, his passion for making Bailey Nelson a community-focused company and his consistently friendly demeanour have prevailed. We sat down with Scott and discussed style icons, what he loves to do when he’s not in the office and which frames he’s rocking at the moment!

You’ve been with Bailey Nelson from the beginning, can you tell me a bit about how you started out with BN and how your role has changed since 2012?

My role has changed a lot since the early days of the Bondi Markets and our first store in Paddington. I’ve always been passionate about building the brand through creating exceptional experiences in our stores and out in the local communities. As we continue to grow I’m really fortunate to do what I love and to focus on continuing to build brand awareness through community engagement.

What does community engagement mean to you, and to the company?

Community engagement is the building of authentic relationships and experiences to promote brand awareness and resonance. It’s about collaborating and working together with those around you to drive growth and success for the entire community, not just Bailey Nelson. The building of these local relationships become more important as we continue to grow as a global brand.

How do you like to spend your weekends?

I’m originally from snowy north-west Pennsylvania near the border of Canada so I try to take advantage of the amazing weather here in Queensland. I love to start the weekend outdoors with either a surf at Snapper or a hike in the Gold Coast Hinterland. I’ll typically follow that with a coffee at Dovetail in Norman Park and pastries from Flour and Chocolate in Morningside. In the evening, I’ll hit up Maker in South Brisbane for cocktails and then Gerrard’s in the Valley for dinner. I’ll finish the night off by listening to Love & Hate on vinyl by Michael Kiwanuka while sipping a decadent single malt.

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Follow your heart and never be afraid of taking a risk. The mindset is what lead me to take a chance and join Nick and Pete on this wild and incredible journey!

Who is your fashion icon, and why?

I’ve always loved the style of Steve McQueen and James Dean. They were the kings of cool during the counter culture taking place in the 1950s and 1960s.

Where is your dream travel destination?

A South America tour de force! I spent a bit of time in Colombia a few years back and fell in love with the culture. I plan on kicking off in Southern California in a 21-window split-screen Kombi and travelling from Mexico to south of Chile and Argentina while hitting as many surf breaks as possible.

If you could have one fictional character over to your house, who would it be?

I’d have “The Dude” from The Big Lebowski over to kick back a few White Russians and to hear about his crazy escapades with his mate and bowling buddy Walter.

Can you share any plans that you have in store for the rest of 2017?

There will be a lot to celebrate over the next six months. My wife and I are about to embark on our honeymoon tour of the United States. Once I return from our holiday, I will dive straight back into my work in community engagement as we continue opening stores in Australia, New Zealand, U.K. and Canada. Bailey Nelson will also be celebrating the company’s 5th birthday this spring. It is incredible to think of how far we have come from a modest stall at the Bondi Markets only five years ago.

What are your long-term goals for your role with Bailey Nelson?

I’m excited to help drive the continued growth of the brand through the building of relationships in new communities around the world.

And lastly, what are your favourite BN frames at the moment?

I’m a massive fan of round frames and lately I’ve been channeling my inner John Lennon while rocking the Aries.
